ICRS Ethan Russo Trainee Prize Fundraiser 2026

February 16, 2026 by Admin

ICRS.Ethan.Russo.Trainee.Prize

In 2022, in honor of his 70th birthday, the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS) established the ICRS Ethan Russo Trainee Prize—a community-funded scholarship awarded annually to an outstanding ICRS trainee conducting applied, translational research with phytochemicals and direct applications in medicine. The Prize both recognizes Dr. Russo’s profound contributions to cannabinoid science and invests in the next generation of researchers carrying that work forward.

We are pleased to invite you to a special webinar where Dr. Ethan Russo will introduce the two most recent recipients of the ICRS Ethan Russo Trainee Prize, who will present their prize-winning research.

  • Beth Wiese, PhD
“Cannabidiol treatment to prevent opioid overdose mortality”
  • Radka Kocvarova, PhD
“Phytocannabinoids for treating obesity-related fatty liver disease”

Critical Gaps in Cannabis & Endocannabinoid System Education

Critical Gaps in Cannabis & Endocannabinoid System Education

Please join us for our next webinar, “Critical Gaps in Cannabis & Endocannabinoid System Education: Deficiencies in Medical Training & Necessary Curriculum Reform for Future Clinicians“

Register Now

This FREE webinar is a must-attend for physicians, nurses, researchers, and cannabis science enthusiasts. However, please note that space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are proud to announce that we have joined forces with our education partner, MM411, and sponsors, Global Cannabis Network Collective, American Cannabis Nurses Association, and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, to bring you this essential webinar.

Join us as Dr. Ethan Russo presents solutions to findings from recent publications that examine whether medical professionals are receiving adequate training and education about cannabis and the endocannabinoid system. Dr. Russo will also highlight critical topics that physicians and researchers believe should be included in medical and nursing education.

As noted by Liz Sherer in a recent article published in MedScape, “There are 19 cannabis education certificate and/or master’s level programs offered in colleges, universities, and graduate schools in 14 US states, meaning that only about one third of the 48 states that have legalized medicinal cannabis have some sort of college or graduate-level curriculum to support patients. The dearth of cannabis education has also left a large percentage of the more than 1 million practicing physicians in the US — and concurrently, most future prescribers — without a framework to leverage what has the potential to become one of the most important tools at their disposal.”

It is alarming to consider that nearly 35 years after the discovery of the endocannabinoid system—the system responsible for maintaining health and homeostasis, regulating, modulating, and playing a role in every biological function in the body—it is STILL not being included in medical school curricula.

In this webinar, we will explore what is missing from nursing and medical school education and discuss what should be included. This promises to be another very interesting and enlightening session.

Dr. Ethan Russo will be discussing:

  • A new article from a Delphi panel of 23 experts outlines recommendation for cannabis and ECS education
  • Discussing the gaps in current approaches
  • Presenting a new online educational platform

This webinar will take place Thursday, October 9th, 2025, 11am PST/ 2pm EST on Zoom. It is free to attend.

History of Cannabis Prohibition and Scheduling

February 21, 2025 by Admin

Please join us for our next webinar, “History of Cannabis Prohibition and Scheduling”.

Dr. Russo will cover:

  1. Cannabis prohibition in the USA, established under false pretenses in 1937, has been an abject failure as have all such efforts with other substances worldwide.
  2. Cannabis was placed in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act in 1970 as a placeholder, and has remained there despite the recommendations of the Shafer Commission and various administrative law judges
  3. Cannabis does not fit in the established schedules and should be de-scheduled, legalized, and regulated for medical use, and other uses similar to alcohol and tobacco, which are much more dangerous substances.

This webinar will take place Thursday, March 13th, 2025, 11am PST/ 2pm EST on Zoom. It is free to attend.
